Currently our UK data comes from the UK Governments Transport authority and the BBCs TPEG feed – both of which are freely available for use.
A typical installation would use an Internet connection via 3G, GPRS or EDGE. It would also require a compatible application, plug in or add on for that platform. See compatibility listings above. Suitable ways of getting an internet connection for a car PC include PC Card GPRS/3G cards, widely available for less than £50 on eBay, and on Pocket PC and Car PC platforms Bluetooth connection via your mobile phone.
All traffic information sources are checked for updates every 5 minutes by our servers, and the corresponding databases are updated. Other sources of information are retrieved by proxy when the client requests them. The client update intervals are dependant on your client settings.
Currently only the UK is supported – further countries will be added at later dates, as long as they have free and legal to use traffic and weather sources.
Yes it is on the server, however as with usual data transmitting across the internet we cannot guarantee the security of your data. We do however keep it in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Yes, the information is freely available in various feeds we just simply format it in to one standard. What we do not do is access data that is encrypted nor a service that has to be subscribed to.
Yes as its only GPS based information it will comply to the new law out in 2006.
Please see our developer pages for more information – but please remember to let us know when you have a working application so we can add you to the compatibility list. We would also ask that you do not charge people for its use as this is freely available information.
We will have forums soon for support and suggestions Please access this forum and post a thread here. Remember this is a free service and we may not answer all questions. We simply provide the data so support for which ever application you may have may come from some where else. In all cases contact the developer FIRST. The forum is a community area therefore self supporting…. This does not mean will not help. |
