This site was created by my self as 'the' place to look up and find out about two areas of interest 'telematics' & 'informatics'. I firmly believe that as we move in to the 'web 2.0' era that locational based customised personal data will be the next major step forward. This is also re-enforced in some of the work that is going on in the field of CarPCs which are both mobile and powerful and when backed up by an Internet connection almost limitless in what it could do.
About The Services
This comes in two versions. The first one is for use on a normal screen and is designed to be used with a mouse and keyboard. The other is for a CarPC environment and designed for use with touch screen. Both types have access to the same information including UK Highways Agency information such as traffic levels and matrix boards and other feeds such as the BBC TPEG system. Theses are constanly been developed to add more functionality and eventually will tie directly into the 'Infomatics' project system.
The project has two main aims - to aggregate useful information and present it in a cost-effective, fast format for use on the move via GPRS, and automatically public useful information onto the internet while on the move. In short it is a basis for a full telematics system that can be used by any private individual for free. On the move, the main method of accessing this data is via a 'Car PC' or 'Carputer' - This is custom PC hardware providing the same kind of features as a car navigation system, but much more customisable. You can learn more about Car PCs on my main site http://www.letscommunicate.co.uk/carpc/. Both these sites link to the main community 'forums' for finding out more about building your own. |
